First Week Tips

We recognize that your child's first week at TumbleweedZ may be intimidating and a bit frightening. During this time of transition, our staff will utilize their experience and training to work with you and your child. The following things can assist your child and their teacher through this transition:

  • Spend time prior to your child's first day to know your child's teacher and their program
  • Share any concerns or helpful things about your child with their teacher
  • Bring your child's favorite object, blanket or stuff toy, to add to their security
  • Communicate with your child - Really brag up their first day and how much fun it is going to be
  • Separations and reunions bring out deep feelings in all of us. We have all had feelings of guilt with our children. These feelings may be quite strong when we find our selves leaving our child for the first time. Children are extremely perceptive and pick up these feeling quickly. When it comes time to leave your child, tell them you will return soon, and leave quickly. Do not sneak out of the center. This does not fool the child and leaves them feeling more insecure and angry that they did not get to say, "Good-bye"
  • You are encouraged to call or to stop in through out the day, at any time to see how your child is doing.
  • Your positive attitude, both verbal and non-verbal, will ease any apprehension your child may have

Keep in mind that, within a few short days, tears are replaced by eager smiles. It is usually harder on you the parent than it is on your child.
